Just Under 1/3 Of U.S. Born Veteran Population Came From These Six States

95.5 percent of U.S. Veterans were born in one of the 50 U.S. States or in the District of Columbia. According to the 2011 Census Bureau American Community Survey, six U.S. States lead the way for locations where Veterans are born in the U.S.. Just under 1/3 of the total U.S. born Veteran population came from these six states in order from highest percentage to lowest:

  • New York (8.0 percent)
  • California (6.8 percent)
  • Pennsylvania (6.6 percent)
  • Texas (5.7 percent)
  • Ohio (5.2 percent)
  • Illinois (5.0 percent)
